Catalyst Domestic Violence Services has been serving the public since 1977.  In Butte County there are drop in centers for abused people in Oroville, Chico and Paradise open from 9 am to 5 pm.  A 24 hour telephone line attended by trained people is available by calling 1-800-895-8476.  There is limited space available at some local shelters for abused people.  Sarah Sullivan states that abuse has many forms and it takes an average of 7 attempts for an abused person to leave their partner,  At times it is necessary for people to advocate or intervene for abused people who may not be able to actively seek help without assistance.  Catalyst offers counseling with therapists, even for those not wishing to leave their relationships.  More  information is available on the internet at www.catalystdvservices.org
