Lisa Michels and Karen Schaefer from CASA

CASA is Court Appointed Special Advocates, an organization  providing court appointed advocates who are trained officers of the court, serving children in the foster care system, representing them in court.  CASA exists in all 50 states, the Butte and Glenn Counties CASA trainees serve under Northern Valley Catholic Social Services.  CASA volunteers come from all walks of life, serving children from the ages of 6 weeks to 24 years, giving the children a voice in the court and in their lives.  The CASA goal is to have the child returned home, while always considering the child's best interest.  There will be a training program for people interested in becoming CASA volunteers beginning September 19, with an introductory meeting scheduled on September 7. Information is available at www.nvcss/casa  A Super Hero Fun Run is scheduled in Bidwell Park on September 17 where children dress as super heroes -- there will be 5K, 10 K and Little Hero runs.  More information is available at www.run4casa.com  Lisa Michels, CASA supervisor, can be contacted by telephone at (530) 345-1600, extension 2130
