Cheryl Kuentz and Julie Reyes from Feather River Lapidary & Mineral Society

Cheryl Kuentz and Julie Reyes see the beauty in rocks. Their club deals in jewelry, rough rocks, gems, beads, opals and crystals.  They host a worldwide rock tumbling contest: (The tumbling process must be done carefully because there are toxic materials in some rocks.)  Five pounds of rocks are sent to participants who return to the club three rocks to be judged.  This club has extensive equipment at their shop in Cherokee to allow many creative processes to be used with rocks.  The club works with scouts earning merit badges, and they sponsor scholarships for Butte College and Chico State University students.  They will present the 9th annual Rock, Gem and Jewelry Show on September 17 and 18 at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico.  They meet the third Tuesday every month at the Thermalito Grange at 6:30 pm..  Their website is www.fearherriverrocks.org
