Carol Zanon, chair of the Greater Oroville Homeless Coalition (GOHC), talked about their participation in the countywide "Project Homeless Connect" to be held at the fairgrounds in Chico on April 27 from 10 am to 3 pm.  During this event homeless people will be given food, clothing, medical services, haircuts, grooming for their pets, and they will have the opportunity to learn about available local services.  There will be free transportation for homeless people  from Oroville to Chico on this day.  The GOHC, a registered nonprofit organization, is available for homeless people all year.  They receive  no federal funding, and are in need of financial support.  Donations may be sent to G O H C, Post Office Box 5667, Oroville, CA 95966. Their phone number is (530) 538-8399. They meet on the third Tuesday of the month at Foothill Community Church on Foothill Blvd, and have an office at the Hope Center on Kitrick Avenue in Oroville.

Duane Zanon, from the Oroville Lions Club spoke of this group's dedication to help eradicate visual difficulties.  They accept donations of used eyeglasses, and on March 19 they encourage people to recycle (donate) their used eyeglasses as part of the Eyes Across California program.  People should bring used eyeglasses to the Lions Club Clubhouse at the Boy Scout Hall, 1425 Safford Street in Oroville, from 10 am to 2 pm.  Eyeglasses will be cleaned, sorted by prescription and shipped around the world to needy people.
